The Agile Robotics Lab (http://arl.ua.edu) at the University of Alabama invites applications for funded PhD positions starting January 2019 (full tuition covered with monthly stipend and health insurance) in the areas of soft robotics and soft exosuits with focus on terrestrial soft robot control and modular soft robots. The position is open for motivated candidates with a background (BS/MS) in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or related field. It is expected that mechanical design, material science, soft robotics, advanced control and applied mathematics (graph theory and optimization) as well as analytical/experimental mechanics will be key features of the research.
Candidates with a broad range of technical skills and a track record in translating conceptual ideas into working prototypes will be strongly considered. Evidence of an ability to work in collaborative teams and good communication skills (oral and written) is essential. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to publish scholarly papers and attend international conferences, as well as take on a mentorship role for undergraduate students, and act as a teaching assistant in related courses.
