The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) continues to support Foodbank, the community service helping thousands of Australians who are experiencing food insecurity.

AIP has introduced a new volunteering day in Victoria last month to assist Foodbank Victoria pick and pack on-line orders and mixed grocery boxes.

The new AIP Foodbank Warehouse Volunteering Program at the Yarraville Warehouse gives volunteers an opportunity to better understand how Foodbank works.

The volunteers help to pack the online orders placed by many of the 470 charity partners.

Mixed groceries items are donated by school students, community groups, clubs and corporate organisations who run food drives to provide the ingredients for the food boxes.

Their charity partners are able to order these boxes which they then pass on to those families or individuals who need that extra help with grocery items.

Valuable contribution

The contribution of the AIP Members is extremely valuable to help those experiencing food insecurity.

To date, the AIP team has packed 21,459 kg of food orders– equivalent to about 38,256 meals for the Victorian community.

Those meals equate to feeding a family of four, three meals a day for about 9 years.

The AIP will continue the program next year, with new dates to be announced soon.

It encourages industry members to join this worthy program.
