Panasonic facial recognition tech wins Benchmark Innovation Award

Panasonic facial recognition tech wins Benchmark Innovation Award article image

Panasonic's face recognition server FacePRO has been named the winner of the site protection software category in the Benchmark Innovation Awards 2018.

Every year Benchmark, the CCTV industry magazine, recognises the best hardware and software on the market.

Previously recognised by NIST as the industry's most accurate face server in independent testing, the deep learning technology has now also been recognised by Benchmark.

The combination of Panasonic edge devices and the facial recognition software (FacePRO:WV-ASF950) maximises the performance of the core engine to achieve accurate and reliable recognition

The technology identifies faces that are difficult to recognise with conventional techniques, such as those taken from an angle of up to 45° to the left or right or 30° up or down.

Enhanced security protection

It also maintains a 90 percent accuracy rate when detecting faces that are partially hidden by sunglasses or face masks.

With this improved accuracy, security protection is enhanced and the system allows matches even when images are 10 years old.

This software was showcased at IFSEC, where 1,500 different success matches were made – including those dressed in costume without a single miss-match.

Panasonic says it will continue to improve its security-related products and provide solutions to meet growing customer needs.
